RAY
SCOTT OUTDOORS Lake Wateree Bass Tournament Benefits Hartsville Athletics Ray Scott,
Mr. Bass, Is Weighmaster HARTSVILLE, SC (April 21,
2000) Ray Scott, the founder of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) and
the man, who made casting-for-cash a profession for bass anglers, will serve as Master of
Ceremonies and weighmaster for the 15th annual Red Fox Bass Tournament, May 6,
on Lake Wateree. Were
excited about having a weighmaster, like Ray Scott, and appreciate his willingness to help
us benefit the Hartsville Red Fox athletic program, said Charles and LaVonde Smith,
tournament directors. The two-man team
tournament will be fished out of Clearwater Cove Marina at Camden, South Carolina and
hosted by Marshalls Marine of Lake City, South Carolina. Last year a field of 137 boats entered. We hope to beat
our all-time entry of 149 teams, said LaVonde Smith, and with Ray Scott as
weighmaster, we know it will be a big show. Monies raised support
the Hartsville High School Athletic Department and the Class 4A Red Fox sports teams. Started as a benefit for the school teams, in
1985, by four bass clubs the event is open to entries by contacting the tournament
directors at (843) 332-5076. The advance entry fee
is $110, says LaVonde Smith, with a $120 payment on the May 6th, date of the
tournament. The first-place winners earn
$1,300 with $7,200 guaranteed for the payout. Scott of Pintlala,
Alabama is credited with awaking the sport of bass fishing from a sleepy weekend
recreational past time to the giant in the outdoor-fishing industry. After building B.A.S.S., based in Montgomery, AL,
to a 650,000 member worldwide organization, Scott left in 1998 to form his own marketing
firm. Ray Scott
Outdoors is a marketing-consulting group for fishing tackle and marine
manufacturers. Scott serves as spokesman for
Triton Boats, Mercury Outboards, MotorGuide trolling motors and Sporting Lives, the
manufacturer of SOSPENDERS, the Coast Guard approved inflatable life vests. Ray Scotts
inspiring story and the professional bass fishing sport he created is told in the 336-page
biography, BASS Boss, written by Robert H. Boyle, long-time writer for Sports
Illustrated. The book reveals the
insiders look at the history and founding of the worlds largest fishing
organization (B.A.S.S.), and the fishing heroes created by the Bassmaster Tournament
Trail. Prior to the 3:00 p.m.
weigh-in, Scott will be on hand to talk bass fishing, sign autographs and discuss new
features on the Triton bass boat. He is
appearing as a guest of Triton Boats and Marshalls Marine, a Triton dealer. Earl Bentz, the
designer and president of Triton Boats, located in Ashland City, Tennessee will be on hand
for the Lake Wateree tournament. Triton has introduced a
new TR-22 model for the serious tournament fishermen.
The Earl Bentz designs feature fully-rigged models from 22 to 16 footers rated for
300 to 115 horsepower. All Triton hulls
feature wood-free composite construction.
Theres no wood in a Triton fiberglass boat that might rot,
explains Stewart Altman of Marshalls Marine. To learn more about
todays modern bass boat building, Triton: The Inside Story is a video
tour of the Triton factory conducted by Ray Scott. Visitors
