Area Hungry to Enjoy Fresh Fish Eagles of Angling
Tournament Catch PINTLALA, Alabama - Catching fish in the Eagles of Angling Senior Bass Tournament on bass-loaded Ray Scott's 55-acre fish factory may not be a problem. But, what to do with the catch might be? Simple answer: telephone 1-877-834-9091. A call to the ALABAMA HARVEST, a community service providing a telephone and transportation network that collects food and delivers it free of charge directly to agencies feeding central and south Alabama's hungry. "Every day more Alabamians than you know go to bed hungry," says John R. O'Neill, Executive Director for the Montgomery-based group. "Some are sick. Unemployed. Homeless. The elderly. Many are in working families," points out O'Neill. "One out of eight who eat our food is a child." O'Neill says the Eagles of Angling catch of fish will be taken to the Faith Crusades Montgomery Rescue Mission, a "local charity feeding hundreds each week." The 80-some anglers in the tournament are fishing for bass 12-inches and under. There is no limit that they can put on a stringer in the four-hours of fishing with artificial lures from the bank on Scott's lake. Known as a "trophy bass" lake, Scott is using the fund-raiser event for the Pintlala Elementary School as a means to control the 55-acre lake's explosion of undersize bass. The Faith Crusades Mission will be the primary recipient, but if the tournament anglers are super-successful and bring in a big haul, O'Neill says other charities will be included. "All the donated fish will be containered at the Pintlala School weigh-in and moved in our refrigerated truck to the local social service agencies prepared to receive them to feed people in need," explained O'Neill. The Alabama Harvest, Inc., is located at 312 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, AL 36104. The office telephone number is (334) 834-9091. The toll-free number is 877-834-9091 to contact the organization to join in the support "to help feed our own in Alabama." The Faith Crusades Rescue mission, at 17 Mildred Street in Montgomery, is headed by Chaplin Curtis Brouder, Ph (334) 834-0551.
