Ray Scott, the "Bass
Boss" 300 Teams Expected for Paris Landing Event, March 31st…. MURRAY, Kentucky - Ray Scott, the man who changed bass fishing from a weekend recreation to a big-time cast-for-cash sport, will be the official weighmaster for the "Froggy Buddy Bass Tournament", March 31 on Kentucky Lake. The tournament hosted by Murray radio station Froggy 103.7 will be presented by TRITON BOATS of Ashland City, Tennessee and Jet-A-Marina of Calvert City, Kentucky, a Triton dealer. "We're excited about having a well-known bass tournament icon - like Ray Scott - as our emcee," said Debbie Howard, promotion-marketing director for the station. "Our first buddy event, last November, had 160 boats entered. We're more than optimistic to get 300 boats and 600 anglers this time," adds Howard. Scott, known as the "Bass Boss" and the founder of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.), will be on hand as a representative of TRITON BOATS. Entry fee is $200 per boat. The boats will begin leaving at 5:30 a.m., and the weigh-in will start at 3:30 p.m. First prize is a guaranteed $10,370 dollars, a fitting amount for a tournament hosted by a radio station with 103.7 frequency on the dial. The top 50 teams will earn prizes. Jet-A-Marina, located at 4616 Highway 62 in Calvert City, Kentucky, can be contacted for entry forms and rules, according to Rodney Tidwell, the sales manager. "Tournament officials will provide a polygraph test for the first-place team and a random test for others after the weigh-in," explained Tidwell. The tournament limit will be five fish per team, to include largemouth, spotted and smallmouth bass. Scott of Pintlala, Alabama single-handedly launched the bass tournament craze in 1967 with the All-American Invitational Bass Tournament at Beaver Lake, Arkansas. Scott's tournament attracted 106 fishermen from 13 states. Stan Sloan of Nashville, Tennessee won the first tournament conducted by Scott. The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, formed by Scott, climbed to over 650,000 anglers worldwide. Scott's BASS Masters Classic, the world championship of professional fishing, has reached the status of "Super Bowl of Fishing." The winner of the Classic has a potential windfall of one-million dollars in endorsements and appearances as a result of the growing popularity of the bass fishing sport.
