RAY SCOTT OUTDOORS, Inc. News Release
Bass Fishing Greats Set B.A.S.S. Founder
Ray Scott, INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Fourth Annual Bass Fishin' Open House at Just Add Water Boats will feature three of the biggest names in the sport of bass fishing at the Indianapolis dealership, January 19, to open the 2002 boating season. Ray Scott, the founder of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) and the man credited with starting the modern-day bass fishing craze, and Earl Bentz, the president of TRITON BOATS and designer of the hottest selling bass boat brand, will be on hand to talk bass fishing and boating. The two bassin' legends, along with professional fishing great Ron Shuffield, will share the seminar stage inside the Just Add Water Boats facility, located at 234 S. Franklin Road. Some of the newest models in the TRITON lineup of 18 to 22 feet bass boats will be on display. Also available, but not on display, is the special-rigged 2002 Triton Classic, fished by the world's top fishing pros in the BASS Masters Classic in New Orleans and the Louisiana Delta. "This is everything the serious bass angler can find in a bass boat," said Ray Scott. "The ultimate bass boat, in my opinion." In just four years, TRITON BOATS, based in Ashland City, Tennessee, has become the No. 1 selling fiberglass fishing boat. As a former champion boat racer with Mercury Outboards and long-time bass angler, Earl Bentz has pioneered a new breed of high performance bass boat. The company's boat building skills feature a wood-free, 100 percent composite construction with no materials that rot. "We're boat builders by trade," says Bentz, "but, first we are bass fishermen. Our designers understand the needs of bass anglers. With our field staff of experienced pros, like Ron Shuffield, we're in touch with fishermen and continue to improve our boats and fishing features." Shuffield, a Bismarck, Arkansas-based pro and winner of the coveted B.A.S.S. MegaBucks title, is regarded as a master of the flippin' technique. Shuffield will explain his know-how for catching more bass with the jig-and-pig and long rod as a seminar feature. Locating pre-spawn bass in deep water by slow-rolling a single-blade, short-arm spinnerbait in reservoirs is another early-season tactic that's worked well for Shuffield on the Bassmaster Tournament Trail. In 1967, Scott fired the starting gun heard around the bass fishing world when he launched the first All-American Invitational Bass Tournament at Beaver Lake, Arkansas. From a field of 106 contestants, Scott grew the B.A.S.S. organization to over 600,000 members and spawned a new fishing industry, including the development of the modern-day bass boat. "Bass Boss," the story of the bass fishing
revolution and the history of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, is told in
detail by writer Bob Boyle and Scott. TRITON's lineup of popular fiberglass hulls will be sharing the spotlight for 2002 with a new series of Triton Aluminum Boats. The Triton 186 Magnum is rated up to 150 horsepower with a stable 85-inch wide beam and 18-feet, 6-inches in length. The all welded, pad bottom hull is tournament-ready and performance proven for big waters, according to Earl Bentz. "The deep vee hull design means a smooth, dry ride in rough water, without the slapping and pounding typical of many aluminum hulls," points out Bentz. The new aluminum 176 Magnum is rated for 125 horsepower outboard, but "delivers outstanding performance and operating economy with outboards as small as 90 horses," said Bentz. The performance is enhanced with Triton's setback transom on the Magnum models eliminates the need for a jackplate. For information on the full line of TRITON's
