Scott Heads All-Star LAKE CITY, S. C. - Ray Scott, the man who changed bass fishing from a weekend recreation to a big-time professional cast-for-cash sport, will headline a group of fishing all-stars for the 2004 Outdoor Sports Expo, January 23-24 at Marshall's Marine. Scott of Pintlala, Alabama founded the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) in 1968 and created the Bassmaster Tournament Trail, which spawned today's bass fishing pros and heroes. Besides the fishing celebrities, the two-day show will feature the newest in bass boats, saltwater boats and powerboats, ATVs, jet skis, and how-to fishing and hunting clinics, according to Stuart Altman of Marshall's Marine, located at 114 East Myrtle Beach Hwy. Show hours on Friday (January 23) are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with Saturday's (January 24) opening at 8 a.m. to a 6 p.m. closing. Admission is free. Scott will be on hand Friday as a special guest of Triton Boats and Mercury Marine. Both companies will have displays of their newest products. Earl Bentz, president of Triton, will exhibit his company's newest X-Series models of bass boats in 19 to 22-footers. The X-Series features 34 design improvements and changes with a wider, roomier front casting platform. Exclusive to the Triton X-Series for 2004 is a built-in reboarding and safety ladder in the stern. The safety innovation received a special award from the National Safe Boating Council and recognized by the U. S. Coast Guard as a boating life-saving feature. Other well-known fishing and television personalities scheduled to appear are Roland Martin, nine-time Bass Angler of the Year; Bill Dance, Hank Parker, Shaw Grigsby and Forrest Wood, founder of Ranger Boats. Showgoers can contact Marshall's Marine at (843) 394-1000 for a schedule of the how-to clinics or log onto the company's website at www.marshallsmarine.com. Besides bass fishing tips from the pros, turkey hunting tactics, striper fishing, cast netting for live bait and Labrador retriever demonstrations are planned. Scott is best known for his creation of the B.A.S.S. organization, but is becoming known as a designer and builder of "Great Small Waters." Scott's three-tape video series on how-to create world-class small lakes and ponds covers lake building from A to Z. Key element in the over 2 ½ hours of video
presentation is the design of lake contours and structure for bass habitat.
