RAY SCOTT OUTDOORS, Inc. News Release
U. S.
Reel Names Ray Scott
PINTLALA, Alabama-Ray Scott, the man who changed bass fishing from a weekend past time to a multi-billion dollar outdoor recreation, today announced that he will serve as national spokesman for U.S. Reel, the manufacturer of new revolutionary open-face spinning reel design. U.S. Reel, based in St. Louis, Missouri, has been issued a patent by the United States Patent Office for its SuperCaster 225 for a "lightweight spinning reel with large diameter spool." Scott, who in 1968 organized the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) that resulted in the mushroom growth of bass fishing's worldwide popularity, and Fred M. Kemp, president of U.S. Reel and the SuperCaster's designer, made the joint announcement. "Ray Scott is the biggest name in bass fishing. His impact on the sport is well documented," said Fred Kemp, during a press conference Tuesday (December 3rd) at the Ray Scott Outdoors, Inc. headquarters in Pintlala, Alabama. "U.S. Reel is excited and we look forward to working side-by-side with Ray to introduce our new revolutionary spinning reel design to bass anglers. Having Ray Scott as spokesman for U.S. Reel is the seal of approval in the outdoors," said Kemp. Scott as head of Ray Scott Outdoors, Inc., a marketing and consulting group for the fishing-marine industry, represents TRITON Boats manufactured in Ashland City, TN; MotorGuide trolling motors, headquartered in Tulsa, OK; Mercury Outboards of Fon du Lac, WI; and SOS, Inc. (formerly Sporting Lives), the manufacturer of SOSPENDERS, the Coast Guard approved inflatable life vest, of Fruitland, ID. "I think, as a national spokesman, I represent the Ray Scott Dream Team of fishing and marine manufacturers," said Scott. "My decision to represent U.S. Reel is the opportunity to tie-in the need to put sport back into sportfishing. I'm enthused about Fred's SuperCaster 225 as the perfect spinning reel for light-tackle bassin' and my introduction of a Sportackle™ Ray Scott spinning rod." Kemp said the reel will be marketed as Ray Scott's SuperCaster by U.S. Reel and will be introduced in the Spring 2003. Unique to the SuperCaster 225 is an oversize 2.25 inch line spool, much larger than the standard 1.5-inch size spools found on light-tackle spinning reels. According to Kemp, the oversize spool results in longer casts. Less line twist, low-line memory and a smoother drag. Key performance features in an open-face reel, and in a spinning reel weighing only 8.0 ounces. The lightweight, large diameter spool concept in Fred Kemp's mind is the "biggest advance in spinning reels since the skirted spool." "Sportackle™ is my concept for making bass fishing fun, again, and getting more strikes," explained Ray Scott. "Fishing 4-pound test monofilament qualifies as light-line presentation, but lightweight doesn't mean lack of strength in rod and reel." The SuperCaster handles 2-to-15-pound test lines as a versatile all-around bass fishing open-face. Scott's 6˝ and 7-foot Sportackle™ rods are designed to fish 2-to-6-pound test monofilament. In addition to appearances and other official spokesperson activities, Ray Scott will be featured in national magazine and print advertisements and television commercials to promote the introduction and sales of the SuperCaster 225. Scott said a long-term contract was signed. "I'm
very pleased to be associated with U.S. Reel and Fred Kemp's innovative
ideas to grow the bass fishing industry. I'm anxious to share our Sportackle™
System to get more bites with other bass anglers," concluded Scott.
